Since his official announcement in October 2015, Jimmy Fallon has been building fans’ anticipation for his upcoming ride at Universal Orlando by sharing small hints and details about the attraction on The Tonight Show and on his social media pages. In celebration of the long-awaited attraction’s grand opening, The Tonight Show will be taped live from Universal Studios from April 3 until the Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon officially launches on April 6.
Replacing the park’s Twister…Ride It Out attraction, the ride is housed in a replica of New York’s 30 Rock building, where the Tonight Show is taped. The experience begins long before the ride does, thanks to the interactive queue that takes riders through the imitation NBC Studios. While waiting to board the ride, guests can listen the Ragtime Gals Barbershop Quartet, meet Hashtag the Panda, play the retro-inspired “Jimmy Drive” video game and sit at an interactive host desk. Real set pieces and memorabilia on display tell the story of the show’s 62-year-old history.
The queue ends inside Studio 6B, where guests watch the ride preshow featuring longtime Tonight Show announcer Steve Higgins, Questlove & The Roots, and Jimmy Fallon. After the video outlines the rules for safe racing, Higgins counts down to the race against Fallon and the ride begins. Riders will fly through New York on a 4D journey, experiencing authentic sights and smells of the Big Apple. Guest appearances from famous Tonight Show faces like Sara, Jimmy in Tight Pants, and Hashtag the Panda occur all throughout the expedition before the ride ends back at Studio 6B.
The attraction exit is located in The Tonight Shop, where guests can browse featured merchandise from NBC, The Tonight Show, The Tight Pants Club, and more.
For those who simply can’t wait until April 6, Universal is hosting limited previews during the attraction’s technical rehearsal period. There are more details on the preview times and virtual line access on the Universal Orlando Mobile App.
