There’s no doubt that Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando Resort is one of the most popular Halloween events in the country, and one of the only experiences that utilizes the help of the folks who created the popular horror franchises you’ll see in the park. With the growing crowds and increasingly long lines each year, is Halloween Horror Nights worth it? While the lines and crowds are something we all come to expect when visiting theme parks, some things are just worth the wait. Here are five reasons why you should experience Halloween Horror Nights at least once in your lifetime!
1. Movie-Set Quality Haunted Houses
Each year the stars of the main event are the haunted houses which have been built featuring movie-set quality aesthetics to create a truly horrifying and exciting experience. Visual and special effects throughout each house will have you wondering what it takes to bring certain elements of each house to life. The level of details not just in the sets but also in the character design and makeup makes you feel like you’re really in the middle of a terrifying nightmare.
2. Scare-Zones and “Streetmosphere”
Guests will be able to walk through the streets of Universal Studios where the park has been transformed from playful to dreadful in scare zones that have their own sets with scare actors whose sole job is to frighten you and your friends. Classic moments and themed areas are incorporated throughout each scare zone, like The Walking Dead’s Fall of Atlanta and Farm from previous years’ events. The amazing decorations throughout the park also add to the creepy vibe of the event, in addition to Mel’s DRIVE-IN transforming into Mel’s DIE-IN for an eerie effect.
3. Scare Actors
Come face-to-face with flesh-eating maniacs, chainsaw-carrying psychos and serial killers ready to expose your fears. One of the best parts of Halloween Horror Nights is interacting with the actors who bring to life (or death!) the terrifying atmosphere around you. The professional makeup and costume effects make it feel like you really are confronting zombies and maniacs that you’d only expect to see in your nightmares.
4. Live Stage Shows
If you need to take a break from the haunted houses and scare zones, Halloween Horror Nights features outrageous live shows where you can sit back and enjoy the show. Previous year’s shows include the ever-popular Bill & Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure, where you’ll follow Bill and Ted as they skewer the biggest names in Hollywood, pop culture and politics.
Tips for Visiting Halloween Horror Nights 2016
Purchase Tickets in Advance
Attending Halloween Horror Nights does not require theme park admission, although having Universal Studios park admission on the same day you plan to attend Halloween Horror Nights can grant you early admission into the park. You can purchase discount Halloween Horror Nights tickets at Tickets2You.com.
If you have a Universal daytime ticket and plan on going to Halloween Horror Nights for early admission, you can get in line at 5:00pm to enter the park. If you don’t have access to early admission, the event begins at 6:30pm. The most popular days are going to be on Fridays and Saturdays and any time closer to Halloween, so it’s best to arrive early to avoid the traffic.
Skip The Costumes
With the amount of costumed characters in the park, masks, props, make-up and costumes are not permitted, and guests wearing costumes will not be allowed into the park.
Purchase a Universal HHN Express Pass
In some cases, lines can take up to 3 hours to get through on busy nights, and even on slow nights you can expect to wait in line for popular haunted houses at least an hour. If you arrive late, you’ll spend most of your time waiting in lines as they just continue to grow as the night goes on.
