Know Before You Go: Theme Park Updates for April 2021

Spring is in full swing at our favorite theme parks this month. The water parks are reopening, new attractions are popping up, and special events are taking place all around Orlando. Keep reading to find out what’s happening at the parks in April.

Walt Disney World

April is Earth month, and there will be several ways to celebrate our planet at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in the days leading up to Earth Day. April 22 also marks 23 years since Animal Kingdom’s grand opening, so stay tuned for more details on all the festivities happening at the park later this month.

Currently, you can still get a Taste of the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival daily through July 5. If you haven’t checked out this year’s event yet, you can preview all of the menus, gardens, and more in this Fresh Epcot guide. Walt Disney World is also serving up some delicious ways to celebrate Easter this year with special dining experiences and treats available for a limited time.

Attraction Updates

Blizzard Beach is back up and running at Walt Disney World just in time for its 26th anniversary! Typhoon Lagoon remains closed until further notice. At the other Disney World parks, the following attractions and dining locations are currently closed.

Universal Orlando

Universal Mardi Gras was extended through April 11, so there’s still time to enjoy the park-wide celebration. During the daily event, you’ll experience authentic Mardi Gras entertainment such as street performers, music, and tons of beads. The Carnaval-inspired event also includes international cuisine from Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, Germany, Spain, and other regions.

Throughout the park, select rides and attractions are closed for refurbishments or due to social distancing concerns. The following experiences are currently unavailable in the parks:

SeaWorld Orlando

SeaWorld Orlando is kicking off the Spring season with three all-new dining locations! Edy’s Ice Cream Parlor, Altitude Burgers, and Lakeside Grill are all officially up and running at the park, serving up a huge variety of fresh menu offerings from Monster milkshakes to delicious burgers and Mediterranean-inspired meals.

The Seven Seas Food Festival is still running at SeaWorld Orlando, taking place every Friday-Sunday through May 9. This year’s festival marketplaces include returning favorites along with a few exciting new locations. Guests can also enjoy live music at Bayside Stadium on event days.

Attraction Updates

The following attractions are currently closed at SeaWorld Orlando:

  • Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin (Penguin Habitat is still open)
  • Wild Arctic (Animal Habitat is still open)
  • Rosita’s Harmony Hills
  • Sky Tower

Busch Gardens Tampa

The Giraffe Bar at Busch Gardens Tampa is now officially open! Serengeti Overlook’s brand new addition offers panoramic indoor and outdoor views of the park’s incredible Serengeti Plain. At the bar, you can enjoy a variety of specialty beverages that support conservation efforts across the globe.

Busch Gardens Tampa is celebrating Easter on April 2-4 with a variety of special experiences throughout the park. You can watch some park’s animal inhabitants take on an Easter egg hunt as part of their enrichment program, including amphibians and reptiles, lemurs, and elephants! Other holiday activities include Easter Storytime at Sunny Day Theater, Easter egg cookie decorating, and more.

You have four more weekends to visit the Busch Gardens Food and Wine Festival before it ends on April 25. In addition to all of this year’s delicious food and beverage menus, you can enjoy live performances from the following artists:

  • Sugar Ray (Friday, April 2)
  • Sister Hazel (Saturday, April 3)
  • Locash (Saturday, April 10)
  • Tito Nieves (Saturday, April 17)
  • Starship feat. Mickey Thomas (Saturday, April 24)

Select Busch Gardens attractions are currently unavailable, including:

  • Congo River Rapids
  • Wild Surge
  • Skyride


The LEGO City Burger Kitchen is back up and running with fresh new menu updates. New offerings include:

  • Crispy Cracklin’ Bacon BBQ Burger: Fried onion straws, cheddar cheese, banana peppers, BBQ sauce, and crispy bacon
  • Fire Chief’s Chicken Sandwich: Juicy breaded chicken drizzled with citrus and herb-infused mayonnaise
  • Dispatch Classic Cheeseburger: Flame-grilled burger topped with LEGOLAND’s special sauce
