Towering 80 feet high, Ihu’s Breakaway Falls, the newest thrill ride at SeaWorld’s Aquatica, is the tallest and steepest slide of its kind in the Southern United States. The ride is designed with a steep vertical descent for the first 40 feet as it reaches speeds of 16 miles per hour before hitting the twists and turns of the loops that encircle the attraction at its base. Four different slide options means that friends and family can tackle this ride together and take turns trying out new tubes and new routes. The added bonus of random release times also guarantees that no ride on Ihu’s Breakaway Falls is ever the same.
Riders will scale 126 steps to reach an 80-foot high platform inside of a clear tube that will release them and their fellow thrill-seekers at random intervals and in random order. “The floor is clear,” states Bryan Nadeau, Vice President of Aquatica Orlando. “They’ll see nothing but down.” The entire experience takes just under 30 seconds and is guaranteed to send anyone’s heart racing into their throat as they plummet toward the earth. To ensure the safety of all riders, they are encouraged to cross their arms and give the operator a “thumbs up” prior to being released.
The ride will feature three different tubes – green, orange and blue – each of which give their respective riders a different winding and spiraling experience as they make their way down. There’s also a Purple Slide for those who are a little weary of having the floor literally ripped out from under them. The Orange Tube, which measures 420 feet in length, is the longest slide of the foursome. The Blue Tube presents riders with the steepest slope option for those seeking to get the most vertical, heart-pounding drops. The Green Tube is the shortest drop of the four, just 28 feet, but it is by no means any less thrilling than the others. Finally, the Purple Slide gives riders the only open-aired slide and is just as steep as the Blue Tube. The new ride will be taller than any other slide at Aquatica and guests will need to be at least 48 inches tall to ride. Guests are also highly discouraged from wearing any loose articles of clothing (i.e., necklaces, hats, sunglasses) before engaging the ride.
The slide itself is named after Ihu, the park’s mascot who is constantly on the hunt for the latest and greatest thrills. It’s easy to see that this magnificent slide deserves his namesake. It is, without question, one of the most thrilling and exhilarating rides of its kind. Be sure to check out Ihu’s Breakaway Falls, the newest adrenaline-charged ride at Aquatica.
