Although the park just celebrated the grand opening of its major Toy Story Land addition in June, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is showing no signs of stopping when it comes to unveiling more new attractions over the next few years. By the end of 2019, the Disney park will have at least five new projects open to the public.
Disney Junior Dance Party
On September 2, the 17-year-old “Disney Junior Live On Stage” show is closing permanently in order to make way for an all-new Disney Junior stage show highlighting current toddler favorites. The overall idea of the new show, called Disney Junior Dance Party, will be similar to Disney Junior Live with high energy music, a “party atmosphere” and beloved DJ characters. DJ DeeJay gets the party starting by playing popular Disney Junior tunes and Finn Fiesta hosts a dance party featuring characters from Mickey and the Roadster Racers, The Lion Guard, Vampirina, and Doc McStuffins. One of the biggest changes coming with the opening of the new “interactive concert” is that the former puppet stars will be replaced by full sized characters.
Lighting McQueen’s Racing Academy
Scheduled to open some time in early 2019, Lighting McQueen’s Racing Academy is coming to the Sunset Showcase next to Rock ‘N’ Rollercoaster. The “first of its kind” show will feature Lighting McQueen following in Doc Hudson’s footsteps and becoming a racing coach who teaches his driving strategies to the next generation of racers. Using a wrap-around screen and the state-of-the-art racing simulator seen in Cars 3, Lighting will demonstrate awesome racing techniques with the help of his protégé Cruz Ramirez, Mater, and more of the Radiator Springs Crew.
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is replacing The Great Movie Ride, which closed last year, in Spring 2019. Based on Disney Channel’s award winning Mickey Mouse Shorts, the 2 & 1/2 dimension attraction will be the first Mickey Mouse themed ride at the park. Riders will accidentally get sucked into an animated world with wild twists and turns, stunning special effects and unbelievable transformations. Although the attraction is inspired by Mickey Mouse Shorts, the ride will feature a never before seen story and an all new theme song.
Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge
The biggest enhancement coming to the park next year is without a doubt Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. The 14 acre expansion is scheduled to open in Fall 2019, and will be an entire new world for guests to explore. Set on the planet Batuu, the immersive land will make you feel like you’ve actually landed inside a Star Wars film. The village, called Black Spire Outpost, is a remote area on the galaxy’s edge that used to be a thriving intersection of trade routes but has become a port for rogue traders and adventurers. Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge will be home to several iconic elements of the film franchise including attractions based on the Millenium Falcon and First Order Battle and a Cantina restuarant serving the infamous “blue milk” drink.
