Disney Brings Star Wars to the Parks

Star Wars fans now have an even better reason to check out the Walt Disney parks. Disney announced this past weekend at the D23 EXPO 2015 that they will be building two massive Star Wars themed attractions at the Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland.

The “lands”, according to Disney CEO Bob Iger, will be 14 acres each and will be staffed and occupied by “local inhabitants” of the various Star Wars worlds. Iger also commented that the massive new areas will be the biggest, single-themed land expansions ever in Disney’s history. “These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance,” Iger said.

The unique lands will feature two signature attractions, one where guests will go on customizable missions and be able to take control of the ship that “made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs,” the Millennium Falcon, and another attraction where guests will be able to go on an epic Star Wars adventure that puts them in the middle of a cinematic battle.

Opening later this year, the Star Wars Launch Bay will take guests into an interactive experience of the upcoming film, as well as the first six films of the Star Wars saga. A new seasonal event will also pop up, the Season of the Force, which brings new experiences to both coasts. In Tomorrowland at Disneyland park, guests will be able to explore the Star Wars galaxy with special entertainment, themed food locations, and Hyperspace Mountain, a re-imagining of the classic Space Mountain attraction where guests will join an X-wing Starfighter battle. Guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will experience a new fireworks spectacular set to the iconic score of the Star Wars movies on weekend nights.

Later this year, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and Disneyland park in California will include a new adventure featuring locations and characters from the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
