Earlier this month, Walt Disney World announced that it was planning a new NBA-themed attraction that will include a restaurant and store, along with exciting high-tech experiences. Just today it was announced that to make way for the new NBA Experience attraction, Walt Disney World will be closing DisneyQuest at Downtown Disney next year.
The hands-on, virtual theme park opened 17 years ago in 1998, and rumors have been flying around about it’s eventual closing. With the increase in home video games, the indoor interactive theme park can’t seem to compete, and its time seems to have come to an inevitable end. DisneyQuest had started to show its age though, considering Disney has not updated many of its attractions during its 17 year tenure.
The new NBA Experience will include several interactive elements, and an attraction that large could overtake the area that DisneyQuest currently occupies. According to reports, guests may be able to enjoy the indoor park until Christmas time, with DisneyQuest closing sometime at the beginning of 2016.
With Disney Springs, the largest expansion in Downtown Disney history, guests are expected to see about 150 shops, restaurants and attractions when it is officially complete in 2016. Guests can still purchase DisneyQuest tickets at Tickets2You.com at a discounted price.
