Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival 2018

Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival 2018

Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival is celebrating 25 years since it began in 1994 and this year’s #FreshEpcot festival is a whopping 90 days long, running from February 28 – May 28. The festival, which coincides with Epcot’s 35th anniversary, is a celebration of sights, sounds and flavors from blossoming gardens and award winning topiaries to creative outdoor kitchens and rockin’ performances at the America Gardens Theater.

Exhibits, Displays & Gardens

Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival showcases Disney’s iconic character topiaries all throughout the park. This year’s brand new front entrance topiary garden is full of brightly colored flowers and greenery shaped like Mickey, Minnie and Goofy. The “kaleidoscope garden” was specially designed to kick off the milestone celebration as soon as guests enter the gates.

Several fan favorite character topiaries are returning, including Donald Duck with nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie behind Spaceship Earth, Beauty and the Beast at the France pavilion, Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs at the Germany pavilion, Anna & Elsa at the Norway pavilion, the Three Caballeros at the Mexico pavilion, Woody at the American Adventure and Buzz Lightyear in Future World near Mission: SPACE. Other topiary creations include beloved characters like Bambi and friends at Showcase Plaza’s West Towers, the Bromeliad Dragon at the China pavilion, butterflies near Showcase Plaza, Daisy and Chip’n’Dale in Future World near Imagination, Lightning McQueen and Cruz Ramirez from CARS 3 in future World near Test Track, and many more favorite Disney friends.

Decorative landscaping takes over the whole park with 70,000 bedding plants surrounding Future World’s east and west lakes, 220 floating mini gardens, and giant flower towers all around Epcot. There are also several new and returning gardens to explore throughout the park, where  guests can learn all about how different plants thrive, where they came from, and how to care for plants in your own home gardens.

World Showcase gardens include the Alpine Container Garden (Germany Pavilion) which offers information about how alpine plants adapt to survive extreme temperatures and can thrive on balconies, in cold weather climates and on sloped landscapes. The Bamboo Garden at the China Pavilion is home to bamboo in all different shapes, sizes and colors and Japan’s Bonsai Collection displays the art of bonsai with masterpieces that create peace and balance within the earth. New to the festival this year is the Tropical Rainforest Garden in the Mexico Pavilion, where you’ll learn how plants and animals have adapted to various light levels and water conditions in Mexico’s rainforests. Match the famous words of William Shakespeare with the flowers and plants he used as symbols and metaphors in his plays at the Shakespeare Garden in the United Kingdom Pavilion. Urban Spice at the Morocco Pavilion teaches guests how valuable ancient spices were in many eastern cultures and how signature spices are created from plant leaves, stems, roots, seeds and flowers while Garden Italiano at the Tuscan kitchen displays the produce and herbs used in  fresh spaghetti sauce, pizza toppings and other classic Italian delights.

In Future World West, you’ll find The Goodness Garden Butterfly House,a foliage filled exhibit where guests can watch butterflies up close and learn about their life cycles and take your festival findings home with garden ideas like building your own butterfly house, garden crafts, and tips on sustainability from the The How-To Garden.

Led by Disney’s horticulture experts, guests will get to see how the park’s garden beds, shrubs, hedges and topiaries are meticulously transformed into botanical works of art. You’ll also get the inside scoop on new plant materials and gardening techniques and learn how to apply Disney’s landscaping techniques at home. The Royal Tea Garden Tour, returning for the second year, begins at the Rose & Crown dining room in the United Kingdom pavilion of the World Showcase at 9:45 AM. The 45 minute tour explores the history of the Twinings family, who has been selling tea since 1706, and the diversity of tea. During the journey through the tranquil tea garden a guide will explain the artistry involved with growing and blending tea. After the tour, enjoy tea and scones with Earl Grey butter, clotted cream and jam at Rose & Crown Dining Room and explore the World Showcase before it opens to general public at 11 AM.
