Guide to the 2019 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival

Epcot’s longest running annual event returns to the park on March 6 for 90 days of fun for all ages! The Epcot international Flower and Garden Festival will take place seven days a week through June 3, with all of the festivities we know and love as well as some all new excitement! From live concerts to out-of-this-world topiaries and gardens, the 25 year old festival is back and better than ever.

One of the stars of this long-standing festival is the world renowned topiary art created by Disney’s genius team of horticulturists. Spread all throughout the park is more than 20 displays of Disney characters and scenes made completely from various plants and flowers. Starting from the park’s entrance and leading all throughout Future World and the World Showcase, guests can marvel at both favorite creations and all new displays including:

Gardens, Exhibits, and Wildlife Habitats

  • Alpine Container Garden (Germany Pavilion): In this garden, guests will learn all about how alpine plants have adapted to survive in extreme environments and why they are the perfect plants for cold weather climates, windy balconies, and sloped or parched landscapes.
  • Bamboo Garden (China Pavilion): The Chinese member of the grass family is on display in the Bamboo Garden in a variety of colors, patterns, and sizes.
  • Bold Bromeliads (Mexico Pavilion)
  • Bonsai Collection (Japan Pavilion): Explore the ancient art of bonsai with sculptures created by amazing bonsai masters who aim to create peace and balance with the earth by tending these small works of art.
  • Chinese Zodiac Natural Sculptures (China Pavilion)
  • English Tea Garden presented by Twinings of London (United Kingdom Pavilion): In the elegant English tea garden, guests will learn the art and history of tea blending and discover the plants that are important to Twinings’ finest tea blends.
  • Festival Blooms (Future World): This display, overlooking the east and west lakes in Future World, features brilliant panoramas made with thousands of flowers.
  • Garden Italiano (Italy Pavilion): The Tuscan Kitchen Garden grows all of the produce and herbs required for cooking a delicious Italian feast.
  • The Honey Bee-stro (Imagination! Pavilion): This immersive garden provides insights on how important honey bees are and what foods from the adjoining outdoor kitchen are the product of the bees’ hard work.
  • Kokedama Garden: On display in this garden is a fresh expression of the age-old Japanese art of bonsai.
  • Purple Martin Garden: The purple martin garden is a temporary habitat for the migratory birds who fly from the Brazilian Amazon over 3,000 miles away to raise their families at Epcot. You can fine-tune your identification skills by keeping an eye out for the brown and white females and the iridescent purple males. On Tuesdays and Fridays, Disney Animal Cast Members will be on hand in the garden to teach all about the incredible birds after 11:00 AM.
  • Shakespeare Garden (United Kingdom Pavilion): Paying homage to William Shakespeare’s frequent use of flowers as metaphors in his work, this unique garden is a display of famous quotes matched with beautiful flowers.
  • The Goodness Garden Butterfly House presented by goGo squeeZ (Future World West): Get an up close look at beautiful species of butterflies among an exhibit filled with exotic foliage as you learn about life cycles and you may even witness a few coming out of their chrysalises!
  • Tropical Rainforest Garden (Mexico Pavilion): Learn how plants and animals found in Mexican rainforests adapt to variations in light and water conditions.
  • Urban Spice (Morocco Pavilion): In many ancient cultures, spices and herbs were worth more than gold and this garden explains how  plants, stems, roots, seeds and flowers are used to create signature blends that define various cultures.
  • Penguin Sculpture (Future World West): Disneynature presents a new penguin sculpture created from repurposed trash pulled from the oceans making for an amazing piece of artwork.

Interactive Areas

At Barrels by the Bay, located near Mouse Gear adjacent to the Fountain of Nations, guests of all ages can put their own creative twist on recycled rain barrels using paint and a variety of cool stencils! The barrels, formerly used as Coke Florida syrup receptacles, have been recycled to  protect community waterways from polluted storm water runoff.

Two special play zones will be set up during the festival, where kids of all ages can enjoy interactive fun. The Family Play Zone, located on the Test Track Walkway, will have tons of Toy Story 4 themed activities for both little ones and adults to explore. On Imagination Walkway, the Play Garden is designed to inspired creativity and teach families fun ways to stay healthy at the all new playground and outdoor kitchen.

Close to the Butterfly House, you can learn how to Plant a Garden Perfect for Pollinators. In addition to creating fun garden crafts, the display offers take-home ideas and sustainable tips for your at home garden

Outdoor Kitchens

As if the amazing gardens and topiary displays aren’t enough, the festival also features several Outdoor Kitchens set up around the World Showcase. Each kitchen, open daily from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, features delicious healthy dishes made with the freshest ingredients that pair perfectly with beer, wine and specialty drinks that represent each kitchen. Special Tours

A great way to start the day is with the Royal Tea Garden Tour beginning in the United Kingdom Pavilion at 9:30 AM, before the World Showcase is even open to the public. The tour guide will escort you to an elegant tea garden for 45 minutes of exploration, getting insight on the history and artistry involved with growing and blending tea. Then, you’ll enjoy tea and scones in The Tea Caddy. The price of this tour is $20 per person and kicks off in front of the Rose & Crown Dining Room.

Presented by Twinings of London, The English Tea Garden Tour is a complimentary 20-minute version of the Royal Tea Garden Tour that takes place Monday through Thursday at 3:30 PM and 5:00 PM, and on Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 PM, 3:30 PM, and 5:00 PM. The tour is only open to 20 guests at a time, so advanced recommendations are recommended.

The Gardens of the World Tour is a three hour journey through the amazing gardens and displays in the World Showcase led by a Disney Horticulturist. Over the course of the walking tour, you will hear exclusive stories from behind-the-scenes of the festival, get a firsthand look at Disney’s incredible landscaping and tips for your own landscaping at home, and learn new gardening techniques. This tour takes place on select Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during the festival from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Reservations for the tour cost $85 per person and can be made by visiting Guest Relations when you arrive at the park or by calling (407) WDW-TOUR.
