Explore Jurassic Park at Universal Orlando

Explore Jurassic Park at Universal Orlando

The classic 1990’s film Jurassic Park is all about an island theme park inhabited with dinosaurs created from primeval DNA. At Universal Orlando, the iconic park has been replicated in a modern area inspired by the prehistoric age with a variety of attractions and experiences that brings the hit movie franchise to life. Although the films are rated PG-13, guests of all ages can enjoy Jurassic Park at Universal’s Islands of Adventure!

Jurassic Park Discovery Center

As you make your way through the massive “Jurassic Park” entrance archway, your first stop is the Jurassic Park Discovery Center. This interactive play area is both educational and entertaining, with a series of unique displays for the whole family to explore. Activities in the air-conditioned exhibit include a fossil dig, DNA sequencing, and even getting to witness the birth of a baby dinosaur! If you happen to be there when an egg hatches, you can name the baby dino and take home an official birth certificate.

Jurassic Park River Adventure

Next up is Jurassic Park’s main attraction: Jurassic Park River Adventure. The water ride is a recreation of Isla Nublar, and is meant to be a scenic cruise through Jurassic Park with special up-close looks at the dinosaurs. Rafts float by fun scenes such as a nice moment between a baby stegosaurus and its mother and a Parasaurolophus popping up to spray water at riders.

Then out of nowhere, the rafts are knocked off course move into an ominous “restricted area.” Chaos ensues when riders come into close contact with Jurassic Park’s most dangerous creatures, including a menacing Tyrannosaurus Rex. An emergency evacuation begins and riders just barely escape the grasp of the T-Rex with a massive 85-foot plunge.

It’s important to note that you will DEFINITELY get wet during this journey. This ride uses 1.5 million gallons of water! Guests must be at least 42″ tall to ride the Jurassic Park River Adventure. Riders under 48″ need to have an adult accompanying them on the adventure.

Camp Jurassic

Guests who aren’t quite big enough (or brave enough!) to experience the Jurassic Park River Adventure can head to Camp Jurassic. The massive multi-level prehistoric playground has so many places for kids to explore. Kids can enjoy dark caves, amber mines, dinosaur capture nets, suspension bridges, themed slides, and so much more.

Pteranodon Flyers

Located at the front of Camp Jurassic is a high-in-the-sky ride that is just for the little ones! The Pteranodon Flyers is an attraction for guests who are between 36 and 56 inches tall. Adults may only ride if they are accompanying a child. This relaxing gondola-style experience takes riders on a relaxing journey over Camp Jurassic, offering unforgettable views of the park.

Raptor Encounter

Another attraction that the whole family can experience together is the Raptor Encounter. Velociraptors have a reputation on Isla Nubar for being the most intelligent AND the most dangerous dinosaurs around. Brave guests can meet the newest addition to the park, a raptor named Blue.

The experience starts with a lesson from an expert trained in raptor behavior. Guests will learn interesting facts about the quick-witted carnivore as well as her natural habitat. One fun fact? An adult raptor can race at speeds that rival a cheetah!

After the short info session with the expert, you can meet Blue and pose for a photo….if you dare! Make sure to approach the raptor slowly and don’t make any sudden movements, you’re inches away from her sharp teeth!

Jurassic Park Games

Elsewhere in Jurassic Park, you can test your luck at a variety of carnival-style games. Midway activities include InGen Egg Nursery, Hammond’s Hot Shots, and Jurassic Park Animal Control Training Zone. Winners of the old fashioned dinosaur games can take home plush creatures, toys, and other cool prizes.

The Jurassic Park experience at Universal Orlando extends to shopping and dining as well. To take home your own souvenirs from an archaeological dig, stop by Dinostore. Looking for the perfect fossil hunting attire? Head to Jurassic Outfitters! There are also plenty of dining options for carnivores and herbivores alike. Take your pick of delights from Thunder Falls Terrace, Pizza Predatoria, or Burger Digs. Then, stop by The Watering Hole to wash it down with a specialty frozen cocktail or an ice-cold lemonade!
