Navigate the Wizarding World like a True Wizard

Navigate the Wizarding World like a True Wizard

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando is an incredible experience for both Potterheads and guests with no previous knowledge of the Harry Potter series. Get the full Harry Potter effect by following these ten steps to navigating the Wizarding World like a real wizard.

  1. When you first arrive to the London Square, you’ll notice an odd purple bus. Stop by the Knight Bus to chat with the driver on duty and his shrunken head companion, who love to chat with curious muggles. You can hop on the bus for a quick glimpse inside the triple-decker vehicle as well.
  2. After you’ve dressed in the robes of your new house, make your way to Ollivander’s tiny shop to find your unique wand. Every few minutes a wand selection show takes place, where one lucky wizard hopeful is chosen by their perfect wand match with the help of the Wandkeeper. Testing the wand is a hilarious display of trial and error, as you may hit a few bumps along the way.
  3. Once you’ve found the perfect interactive wand, you can start practicing spells all around Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. spell locations are marked with gold medallions in the ground that indicated where wizards-in-training need to stand to practice their spells. Each medallion shows the words used in the spell, the direction to wave your wand in, and which way to face in order to cast a successful spell. When you purchase your interactive wand it comes with a map to help located spell locations, but there are also hidden locations that are not on the map. Be on the lookout for four red dots of light coming from potential interactive sensor locations.
  4. Head into The Gringotts Money Exchange to trade in US currency in $10 or $20 denominations for Wizard bank notes that can be used anywhere is Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade, and other select locations at Universal. While you’re there, don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with the goblin bank tellers. He’ll respond to just about anything, but you can try asking about his age or about his experience with dragons. He’s got a pretty strong reaction to being photographed as well…
  5. After your trek around Diagon Alley, head to King’s Cross train station to climb aboard the Hogwarts Express. Sit back and take in the scenery as you travel to Hogsmeade, and keep your ears open for familiar voices on the train.
  6. When you’ve arrived to Hogsmeade, you’ll quickly see Hogwarts towering over the area. Make your way to the school to embark on the Forbidden Journey, which takes you on a one-of-a-kind tour led by Harry, Ron and Hermione.
  7. Outside of Hogwarts you can join in the Triwizard rally, where you’ll find students from Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang building excitement for the Triwizard Tournament.
  8. A Hogsmeade favorite of Harry, Ron and Hermione is the Three Broomsticks. Take a break and cool off with a Butter Beer, cold or frozen. The infamous drink can also be ordered hot or with ice cream.
  9. Stop by the Owl Post to stock up on supplies like stationary, quills, ink, seals, and mail a letter with an authentic Hogsmeade postmark.
  10. Before your day in the Wizarding World, be sure to stop by Honeydukes Sweets Shop to stock up on magical candies like chocolate frogs, acid pops, whizzbees, and exploding bonbons. Don’t forget to test your luck with a box of Bertie Botts’ Every Flavour Jelly Beans!
