2018 is rapidly coming to an end and the new year is promising some big, exciting changes all over Orlando! With new rides, hotels, and restaurants are scheduled to open at all of our favorite attractions, 2019 is already shaping up to be an awesome year for theme park lovers!
Walt Disney World
The upcoming year is going to be major for Walt Disney World Resort, with new attractions popping up at each park and a new resort hotel opening on the property. It is extra meaningful, because the celebration of Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday continues all year long during The World’s Biggest Mouse Party!
Tons of the exciting new experiences coming to Disney World in 2019 begin on January 18, including Minnie & Mickey’s Surprise Celebration at Magic Kingdom. This park-wide party brings tons of new entertainment and character experiences taking place daily through September 30, 2019 including special musical performances from The Dapper Dans, the Casey’s Corner Piano Player, and more. Mickey and Minnie, dressed in special celebration outfits, will be available to meet fans each day inside Town Square Theater while Pluto will be posing for photos with guests at Pete’s Silly Sideshow in Storybook Circus. You can also expect to find limited time merchandise, food and drinks for sale during the Surprise Celebration.
An all-new Move It! Shake It! MouskeDance It! Street Party will hit Main Street U.S.A. several times daily as part of the park’s festivities, with popular characters like Donald, Daisy, Goofy, and Max dancing along to modern remixes of familiar Mickey Mouse Club hits. The street party will also feature a new theme song called “It’s A Good Time”.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
2019 is a milestone year for Disney’s Hollywood Studios as well, marking 30 years of operation at the park. In honor of the landmark year, a slew of new attractions will be opening all throughout the year. In Spring 2019, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will unveil Lighting McQueen’s Racing Academy, a new interactive show experience at Sunset Showcase. During the show, Lightning shows off all the racing tips and tricks he’s learned over the years with the help of the state-of-the-art racing simulator. Other stars of the show include Tow Mater, Cruz Ramirez, and more familiar faces from Radiator Springs. Outside, guests can stop for a meet and greet with Lightning McQueen’s protege Cruz Ramirez.
Also opening sometime next Spring at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. The park’s first Mickey-themed ride is taking over the Chinese Theater, formerly the home of The Great Movie Ride. Based on Disney Channel’s award winning Mickey Mouse Shorts, the 2 & 1/2 dimension attraction will suck riders into an animated world with wild twists and turns, stunning special effects and unbelievable transformations. Although the attraction is inspired by Mickey Mouse Shorts, the ride will feature a never before seen story and an all new theme song.
On May 1, the park’s new nighttime spectacular “Wonderful World of Animation” will premiere, taking guests on an adventure through more than 90 years of advances in animation with the help of state-of-the-art projections.
Perhaps the biggest and most exciting thing coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios (and possibly all of Disney World!) is Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The long-awaited land is set to open in Fall 2019 and includes a 14 acre park expansion that will completely immerse park-goers into the world of Star Wars.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, guests can celebrate 25 years of The Lion King with the new Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party, starting January 18 on Discovery Island. Led by Timon and Rafiki, the party features fun dances and games inspired by the classic Disney movie accompanied by live musicians performing world beat style tunes. You can also pose for pictures at new 3D photo ops that recreate iconic scenes from The Lion King.
The excitement continues outside of the parks, with a brand new dining experience making its way to Disney Springs this upcoming summer. City Works Eatery and Pour House, which will open on the West Side of the complex, will feature 80 different beers on tap at a time from local breweries and breweries around the world. The City Works menu will feature classic American fare like burgers, bar bites, and other shareable dishes. This new restaurant will be the perfect place to watch your favorite sporting events, with TVs all over including a massive 165 inch screen.
Universal Orlando Resort
The new year will also bring some new additions to Universal Orlando Resort, one being a new hotel with a “laid back, coastal feel” called Universal’s Endless Summer Resort. Scheduled to open for reservations sometime next summer, the two hotel towers will mark the seventh and eighth on-site hotels. Located on the former site of the Wet’N’Wild water park, the two hotels that make up the Endless Summer Resort fall in the Universal Value Hotel Category with room rates starting at just $73 per night.
The first building, called Surfside Inn & Suites, will feature 750 guest rooms, one swimming pool, and waterfront activites all located on the property that formerly held the water park. The second, called Dockside Inn & Suites will feature 2,050 guest rooms and two swimming pools taking over the former site of Wet’N’Wild’s parking lot.
Over half of the guest rooms available at the resort will be two-bedroom suites with sleeping accommodations for up to six guests, a kitchenette, a dining area, and a two-compartment bathroom area with separate vanity and shower. Suites will likely start around $111 per night.
Both the Surfside and Dockside Inn & Suites will offer the standard on-site hotel perks including early park admission and park-wide charging privileges with room keys. Like all the other Universal Resort Hotels, the Endless Summer Resort is a partnership between Universal and Loews Hotels & Company.
Busch Gardens Tampa
Things are about to get a lot more exciting at Busch Gardens with the opening of Florida’s tallest launch coaster in Spring 2019. Tigris offers a unique and innovative ride along over 1800 feet of steel track and reaching speeds of more than 60 miles per hour, mimicking the unbeatable speed and agility of a tiger. The ride features twists and turns, massive loops, drops and a 150 foot skyward surge.
This is just the beginning of exciting things to come to the parks in the next few years, so stay tuned for more announcements on all things Orlando on the Tickets2You blog! Follow @Tickets2You on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to see what’s going on with your favorite attractions.
