Going to Disney World is any family’s dream summer vacation, but the summertime heat in Florida can bring down everyone’s mood fast. If you plan ahead and prepare well though, you can still have a stress-free, relaxing vacation. To help guide you, we’re highlighting some of our top tips for keeping your cool as the temperatures rise.
You can find ice-cold, yummy refreshments all over the Disney parks and resorts. In the Magic Kingdom, be sure to stop by Aloha Isle in Adventureland to try the foodie favorite Dole Whip. Over in Fantasyland, we really like the newly added LeFou’s Brew, an apple juice slushy slightly flavored with marshmallow, at Gaston’s Tavern. Epcot has many tasty treats, including Club Cool located in Future World, where guests can sample Coca Cola products from all over the world. If you’re over 21 and in need of refreshment, head to Mexico in Epcot’s World Showcase for some fabulous frozen margaritas.
Over in Animal Kingdom, you can pick up Snow Cones in blue raspberry, grape, cherry flavors at the Dino Diner and Pineapple Whips (with optional Dark or Coconut Rum additions) from Tamu Tamu Refreshments. For an extra indulgent frosty dessert, check out 50s Prime Time Cafe in Hollywood Studios for their selection of classic – and not-so-classic – shakes like the unique and tasty PB & J.
The fastest way to cool off on a steamy day is to splash around in the water. You’ll find splash pads all over the parks and even in Downtown Disney. A great way to stay refreshed while on the go is with a misting fan. You can purchase them from any park, but you’ll have the best luck finding them in Magic Kingdom as that location has first priority. The fans are a quick, easy way to keep the family cool as you travel the parks. Check out Kali River Rapids in Animal Kingdom if you’re looking for a bigger, more thrilling splash. In Magic Kingdom, kids will love playing at Casey Jr.’s Splash ‘N’ Soak Station while parents unwind.
If you’re over in Hollywood Studios, head to the ‘Honey I Shrunk the Kids’ Movie Set Adventure and check out the 52-foot-long leaking water hose that’s sure to soak the kids. You’ll also find Coke misting stations spraying cool relief on guests near Test Track in Epcot and the back lot of Hollywood Studios.
Disney World has no shortage of entertaining shows and, luckily for weary guests, many of these are indoors where you can enjoy cool AC and comfortable seating. If you’re in Hollywood Studios, be sure to check out Muppet*Vision 3D to watch the hilarious antics of beloved Muppets characters while you take a break from the hot sun. In the Animal Kingdom, you can take a 40-minute break from the heat to watch Finding Nemo – The Musical. A spectacular musical based on the award-winning movie, it has fantastic visual effects and catchy songs.
If you’re over in Epcot, head to The American Adventure to cool off during the 30-minute show. Featuring entertaining animatronics, film, and music, it’s a great way to unwind and you may even learn a thing or two! Another patriotic presentation over in Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Square is the classic Hall of Presidents. This show lasts around 25-minutes, giving you ample time to recover from the heat while being entertained.
One of our favorite stops to beat the heat is over in Epcot’s Japan. Tucked away just past Japan’s gift shop is Bijutsu-Kan Gallery, a small exhibit showcasing Japanese legends and culture. It’s well designed and informative, but usually not very busy so it’s a welcome reprieve from both crowds and the heat.
A fun attraction in Hollywood Studios, Toy Story Midway Mania is a family-friendly, exciting 4D ride with an air-conditioned wait. Ride and shoot moving targets while you and the kids cool down. If you’re in the Magic Kingdom, you can meet up with your favorite characters from Beauty & the Beast at Enchanted Tales with Belle, an interactive storytelling experience. If you’re looking for more excitement, brave the gripping DINOSAUR ride, an indoor roller coaster located in Animal Kingdom.
