There are numerous attractions that you can visit in sunny central Florida, but with a limited amount of time and a more limited budget, it can be really challenging for the average family to get the best bang for their buck. Here are some of the “coolest” attractions that will keep your family comfortable and your wallet full.
Disney has a pair of water parks that are fun for the whole family and reasonably priced if you couple entry with an annual pass that will give you access to the rest of Disney’s family of parks. Specifically, a trip to Disney would not be complete without making your way to the world-renowned Disney’s Blizzard Beach. Disney’s Blizzard Beach has attractions like Melt-Away Bay, an automatic wave pool, and the Cross Country Creek, a 3000-foot lazy river, that are perfect for families that just want to kick back and relax while staying cool. There’s also Ski Patrol, an area designated for pre-teenage children and the Leisure Pool which allows for little ones under the age of 12 in on the fun. For those seeking more of a sense of adventure, there is the Summit Plummet which is a 120-foot tall free-fall water slide which earns the distinction of being the second-tallest and fastest free fall water slide in the world, clocking in at just over 60 miles per hour. Additionally, families may be able to get together and enjoy the thrill of Teamboat Springs, the world’s longest “family white-water raft slide”. It allows for families of 4 to share the thrill of 1,400 feet of winding twists and turns. A discussion about keeping cool would not be complete without talking about SeaWorld Orlando, home of Shamu.
There are several options for live entertainment that provide for great amounts of shade and the possibility to interact with various aquatic creatures. Shamu Stadium, home to a seven-million gallon tank is home to the park’s killer whales. The stadium, in its 30th year of operation, is home to a multitude of shows that will entertain the whole family and provide for a possibility of dousing in the first few rows. It is important to note that there are many animal exhibits at SeaWorld Orlando which provide a comfortable shaded experience for those seeking to get out of the hot sun for a half an hour at a time. The park has also installed many misting fans, just in time for summer, to make sure that park guests are comfortable as they walk from attraction to attraction.
Finally, there is a pair of chilly rides that are entirely indoors. Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin is part of the new Antarctic expansion opened in the not-so-distant past. This great new attraction and Wild Arctic are both motion-simulated rides that place guests in the shoes of explorers seeking to protect these frolicking friends from the dangers posed by Mother Nature. They are a welcome reprieve from any hot day, and kids enjoy them too!
