The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley at Universal Orlando Set to Open July 8, 2014

Universal Orlando Resort has announced that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley will officially open on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 – featuring an all-new immersive environment with shops, eateries and an amazing thrill ride called Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. Diagon Alley will double the size of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, expanding it across both Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida.

Guests will enjoy the opportunity to board the Hogwarts Express for a fascinating journey between London and Hogsmeade, stroll through the streets of Diagon Alley, view the Knight Bus, enjoy eclectic shops such as Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, dine at the Leaky Cauldron, experience a thrilling adventure at Gringotts bank vaults and much more.

Diagon Alley Highlights

Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts: An action-packed, fully immersive adventure that integrates state-of-the-art technology, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts will feature amazing thrills as guests tour Gringotts bank and race through the labyrinth of the underground vaults. Highlights will include encounters with the fire-breathing Ukranian Ironbelly dragon, villainous Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange and He Who Must Not be Named!

The Knight Bus: Based on the three-story, purple bus that first appeared in the third film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, The Knight Bus can be found in the London area. Guests will be able to meet the Knight Bus Conductor and view his rapport with the shrunken head hanging from the rear-view mirror.

The Singing Sorceress: Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees: A lively musical performance that will feature such songs as “A Cauldron Full of Hot, Strong Love,” “You Stole My Cauldron But You Can’t Have My Heart” and “You Charmed the Heart Right Out of Me.”

The Tales of Beedle the Bard: A new stage show, The Tales of Beedle the Bard will take place within Carkitt Market and feature a troupe of four entertainers from the Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts using stylized scenic pieces, props and puppetry to tell two of the tales from Beedle the Bard: “The Fountain of Fair Fortune” and “The Tale of the Three Brothers.”

Gringotts Money Exchange: Guests can visit the Gringotts Money Exchange and exchange their “Muggle” currency for Wizarding Bank Notes from the Gringotts bank goblin. Wizarding Bank Notes can be used to purchase snacks and items from the shops within both Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade.

Ollivanders: The original Ollivanders opened at Hogsmeade when The Wizarding World of Harry Potter first opened its doors. Diagon Alley will feature a second location of the “Makers of Fine Wands since 382 BC.”

The Leaky Cauldron: This popular wizarding pub and inn will serve traditional British dishes such as Bangers and Mash, Fisherman’s Pie, Toad in the Hole, Fish & Chips and the Ploughman’s, as well as new draught beers such as Wizard’s Brew and Dragon Scale, as well as Pumpkin Juice, Butterbeer, Fishy Green Ale and Tongue Tying Lemon Squash.

Floream Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour: A “whimsical and colorful” ice cream shop, Floream Fortescue’s will feature more than 20 eclectic ice-cream flavors such as Apple Crumble, Strawberry and Peanut-Butter, Orange Marmalade, Earl Grey and Lavender, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Chocolate Chili, Clotted Cream and Salted Caramel Blonde, as well as sweet cakes, tarts, scones and pastries.

Eternelle’s Elixir of Refreshment: The amazing selection of elixirs will include Draught of Peace, Babbling Beverage, Elixir to Induce Euphoria and Fire Protection Potion. Other not-to-be-missed Diagon Alley destinations include Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes (magical jokes and novelty items), Madam Malkin’s Robes for All Occasions, Magical Menagerie, Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment and Quality Quidditch Supplies.

Diagon Alley in Universal Studios Florida will join the village of Hogsmeade in Universal’s Islands of Adventure via the Hogwarts Express (guests will need to purchase a Park-to-Park admission ticket or an Annual Pass). Hogsmeade boasts classic attractions such as Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Dragon Challenge and Flight of the Hippogriff, as well as Harry Potter-inspired eateries, shops and attractions such as Honeydukes, the Three Broomsticks, the Hog’s Head Pub, the Owlery and Owl Post, Ollivanders, Dervish and Banges and Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods.
