Disney’s latest resort-wide transportation system will officially open on September 29! The Disney Skyliner is a state-of-the-art aerial gondola system that will take guests to and from select resort destinations.
The Skyliner system will have close to 300 cabins, all decorated with graphics based on Disney films, attractions, and characters such as:
- Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Chip and Dale
- Goofy, Pete, Horace Horsecollar, and Clarabelle Cow
- “Finding Dory”
- “Monsters, Inc.”
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- “Beauty and the Beast”
- “Lilo & Stitch”
- Hitchhiking Ghosts from the Haunted Mansion
Guests will be able to travel from Disney’s Hollywood Studios and International Gateway at Epcot to gondola stations at select Disney resort hotels including:
- Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
- Disney’s Pop Century Resort
- Disney’s Riviera Resort
Each gondola will carry ten guests at a time and strollers, wheelchairs, and service animals can all be accommodated. Travel time will be around and 15 minutes between stations, depending on which route you’re taking.
This is the second time a gondola-style mode of transportation has been in operation at Disney World. When Magic Kingdom opened in 1971, guests were able to travel between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland on the Skyway. The original lift system closed in 1999 and the stations were demolished to make room for other attractions in the park.
