Know Before You Go: Theme Park Updates for January 2020

2020 is going to be a big year at our favorite local theme parks, and all of the exciting changes are already underway this month! A variety of park attractions will be closing for refurbishments or to make way for new experiences, and there are several special events to take park in all throughout January. Keep reading for all the info you need to know about the parks this month!

Adjusted Park Hours at Magic Kingdom
  • January 1: Park closes at 10:00 PM
  • January 2-4: Park closes at 11:00 PM
Adjusted Park Hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • January 1-5: Park closes at 9:00 PM
Adjusted Park Hours at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
  • January 1: Park closes at 9:00 PM
  • January 2-4: Park opens at 8:00 AM and closes at 9:00 PM
  • January 7: Park closes at 6:00 PM

What’s New

  • Star Tours – The Adventure Continues at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been updated to feature an all-new storyline based on the new Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker movie. Riders can now take a trip to Kef Bir, an ocean moon featured in the film. Scenes from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker have also been added to Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular.

Attraction Updates

  • Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular is back at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, taking place nightly at midnight at the Chinese Theater.
  • Magic Kingdom’s Festival of Fantasy Parade start time will move from 3:00 PM to 2:00 PM beginning January 2.
  • Characters greetings in Innoventions West at Epcot will close or move to different locations starting January 5. Mickey Mouse will move to the Disney-Pixar Short Film Festival in the Imagination! Pavilion and Minnie Mouse will greet guests in the World Showcase Gazebo. Daisy will move to Future World East and Goofy can be found at the main park entrance near Spaceship Earth. Joy will join Wreck-it Ralph in the Imagination! pavilion, while the Sadness and Baymax character meet and greets will end altogether.
  • Splash Mountain will close for refurbishments at Magic Kingdom on January 6. It is currently set to reopen on February 27.
  • Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be closed for renovations from January 6 through March 20.
  • Epcot’s Test Track will be closed for refurbishments from January 13 to February 27.

Special Events

  • Celebrate Three Kings Day at SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa on January 4-6!
  • Busch Gardens Tampa‘s long-running concert series Real Music, Real Masters returns to the park on January 7. Performances will take place in the Stanleyville Theater through March 15.
  • Rock the Universe takes over Universal Studios Florida after 4:00 PM on January 24 & 25
  • SeaWorld Orlando‘s inaugural Rescue Run will take place at the park on January 25
  • Elmo will be celebrating his birthday in Sesame Street Land at SeaWorld Orlando on January 27!
