10 Things You Might Not Know About SeaWorld Orlando

SeaWorld Orlando is arguably the most unique attraction in Orlando due to the aquarium/zoo/theme park combination style of the park. From the innovative rides to the up close animal encounters, SeaWorld offers a completely different experience than its neighboring theme parks. Here are ten of the most interesting things you might not know about the adventure park!

  1. The Flamingo Parade: If you get into SeaWorld as soon as the park opens, you’ll likely get to see a sneak peek at the secret flamingo parade that happens each morning when employees walk the creatures from their after hours habitat to their park exhibit. Just head towards Manta when you get into the park for a glimpse at the bird procession.
  2. Get Close-Up Animal Pics: For a chance to get fun pictures of the animal entertainers, head to any of the shows 30 or 40 minutes early and you’ll likely see them out playing before the show starts. This gives you an opportunity to get great shots before the crowd rolls in or to just watch the animals have fun.
  3. Super Sized Grocery Shopping: SeaWorld Orlando receives close to 30,000 pounds of fish and 400,000 pounds of romaine lettuce PER WEEK to feed to the animals that inhabit the park.
  4.  Record Breaking Roller Coaster: Mako is the fastest, tallest and longest roller coaster in Orlando. The track is almost a mile long, reaches speeds of 73 miles per hour, and hits maximum heights of 200 feet in the air.
  5. A Hidden Aquarium: In the Journey to Atlantis gift shop (called The Golden Seahorse),walk towards the back of the store and you’ll find an entrance to the secret Jewels of the Sea aquarium. The dark marine exhibit is filled with tanks from floor to ceiling, showcases animals like glowing jellyfish and tropical fish.
  6. Cutting Edge Attractions: The park’s Infinity Falls attraction features the world’s tallest river rapids drop, a 40 foot plunge into raging whitewaters!  Another unique feature of the new ride is that the ride’s lift system is a water powered elevator lift.
  7. SeaWorld Cares: Animal rehabilitation organization “SeaWorld Cares” has helped over 36,000 ill, injured, orphaned and abandoned animals in its rehabilitation efforts over the past 50 years.
  8. Not Just For Kids: From 4 PM to 8 PM each day, guests can enjoy happy hour at Flamecraft Bar and Sharks Underwater Grill Bar. Both restaurants offer buy one get one deals on mixed drinks, domestic, and craft beers.
  9. Manatee Rehabilitation: SeaWorld’s public relationship with animal conversation has been widely discussed over the years, but you may not know that a big focus of the park’s rehabilitation is Florida’s manatee population. An entire section of the park’s 5 acre Animal Rescue Center is dedicated to rescuing manatees and rehabilitating them with the hopes of releasing them back into the wild.
  10. Realistic Habitats: The Antarctica Penguin exhibit that houses a colony of more than 250 penguins mimics the South Pole’s timezone by following the exact times of daylight and nighttime so that the animals feel like they are in their natural environment.
