We’ve already talk about the upcoming Walt Disney World projects, but there are new attractions popping up all across Orlando this year! After a rough 2020, our favorite theme parks are bouncing back with exciting new thrill rides and so much more.
After much speculation, a thrilling new rollercoaster at Universal Orlando is officially on the way! The Jurassic World Velocicoaster is scheduled to open at Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Summer 2021.
When it’s complete, the new attraction will be the most extreme ride experience ever created for a Universal park. Guests race along with a pack of velociraptors at top speeds of 70 miles per hour.
After delays due to COVID-19, Ice Breaker is finally set to make its debut at SeaWorld Orlando in Spring 2021. The park’s first-ever launch coaster will feature the steepest beyond-vertical drop in Florida. The ride reaches a 93-foot tall spike with a 100-degree angle! The rest of the track includes a series of exciting twists and turns, including four launches backward and forward. Ice Breaker is located in the Wild Arctic plaza.
The thrilling new coaster is part of a partnership with the Alaska SeaLife Center; a dedicated research, rescue, rehabilitation, and education facility. You can expect to get more info on how the attraction will help share the organization’s mission as we get closer to the grand opening.
As we wait for the official opening of the coaster, you can get a sneak peek of the thrills with a virtual ride on Ice Breaker!
Busch Gardens Tampa
Busch Gardens’ Iron Gwazi isn’t a brand new attraction, but an epic makeover to the original wooden roller coaster. The hybrid coaster is the tallest and steepest in North America, reaching a 206-foot peak followed by a 91-degree drop.
Iron Gwazi’s track is a mix between wood and steel, featuring some of the original Gwazi elements as well as all-new thrills. Located in the Morocco area of the park. Iron Gwazi was supposed to open to the public last spring. Like most of the other theme park projects in the works last year, the COVID-19 pandemic caused major delays. However, Busch Gardens Tampa says that we can expect the ride to finally open in 2021. In the meantime, you can ride Iron Gwazi virtually!
2021 marks the 10th anniversary of LEGOLAND Florida, and it looks like the milestone is going to be celebrated in a major way. Rumor has it a 4.5 acre expansion of the park is in the works. Plans include at least six new attractions and a large building that may be a new restaurant. Nothing has been officially confirmed, but more information about the project is on the way according to a park spokeswoman.
In the meantime, you can look forward to Brickbeard’s Water Sports Show, set to debut on February 12, 2021. The new show is one of many new attractions coming to LEGOLAND this year, including a new 4-D film at Legoland Fun Town Theater and a new master model builders experience.
ICON Park Orlando
ICON Park Orlando is starting the year off with a fun new attraction. Museum of Illusions opened on January 9 with more than 50 mind-bending exhibits to explore. From an Upside Down Room to a Vortex Tunnel, the museum provides a weird and wonderful indoor adventure.
Along with the new museum, two additional attractions are making their way to ICON Park this summer: The Slingshot and The Drop Tower.
The ICON Park Slingshot will be the world’s tallest slingshot attraction, sending brave riders 450 feet in the air at 100 miles per hour! As if that’s not thrilling enough, the ICON Park Drop Tower is also in the works. This 430-foot tall tower will take guests up 40 stories for a very unique view of Orlando. After a short pause to take in the scenery, riders will find themselves free-falling back down at 75 miles per hour.
